Sheet metal parts are commonly referred to as sheet metal parts. Sheet metal refers to a metal plate whose thickness is much smaller than its length. Due to its special geometry and small thickness, it has the advantages of small processing volume, light weight, easy cutting, standardized shape and so on. It can be used to manufacture large and complex parts with high production efficiency and low production cost. It is widely used in various fields.
1 Characteristics and importance of sheet metal process
Sheet metal parts are divided into three processing processes: blanking, forming and connection. According to the above three processing processes, the sheet metal process can be divided into stamping process, bending process and welding process. These three processes have their own characteristics. The traditional machining process uses cutting tool processing, while the stamping and bending processes use stamping die and bending die processing respectively, and the welding process uses welding equipment and positioning tooling for welding processing. Different processing methods lead to different processing techniques. For designers who have been engaged in traditional machining structural parts for a long time, it is particularly important to change the structural design ideas and consider the impact of the limitations of sheet metal processing equipment and processing molds on the design of sheet metal parts.

2 misunderstanding and optimization of structural design of sheet metal parts
The structural design of sheet metal parts should mainly consider the requirements and characteristics of sheet metal processing technology. In addition, we should also pay attention to the batch size, processing cost and production efficiency of sheet metal parts. Because designers have been engaged in the design of machining structure for a long time, there are often some misunderstandings in the structural design of sheet metal parts.
3 strength design
Because designers can not get rid of the design idea of machining structural parts, in order to improve the design strength of sheet metal parts, they blindly increase the thickness of sheet metal materials, but can not improve the design strength from the aspects of sheet metal stamping process and bending process. When designing a sheet metal product, materials with the same thickness should be selected as far as possible, which can play a positive role in the production, material preparation, processing, welding and other technological processes. The strength can be obviously improved by stamping convex hull and rolling rib. In the structural design of sheet metal parts, the stress analysis of the structural parts can be carried out, and the stress concentration point and dangerous section of the parts can be calculated. The convex hull reinforcement is designed on the stress point, and the stiffener reinforcement is designed at the dangerous section. Through the strong flattening of the bending flattening die, the local thickness of the sheet metal can be doubled, but the strength is much higher than that of the material with double thickness.
